General Information

The Wildland Fire Operations Research Group (WFORG) in Hinton, Alberta provides leadership in fire operational research and technology development. The group was established in January 2001, and was initially funded solely by Alberta Sustainable Resource Development. Since this time, it has grown to include support from other provinces, forest companies, and equipment manufacturers and suppliers, as well as increased its staff from three to ten. The WFORG is currently working on projects deemed important by the provincial protection organizations in western Canada.

The WFORG's mission is to work on three broad areas of wildland fire research: operations, planning and design. Research outputs benefit firefighters, fire managers, equipment manufacturers and service agencies.
